THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS
Today we begin our Church-wide Daily Devotional of Reading through the Psalms for the next 31 Days. Attached you will find a daily Reading List for all 31 days. Below you will find a link to today's Video Reading and Reflection.
PEACE IN THE PSALMS
We may not be able to escape our current circumstances, but we can find peace for our anxious souls and the words of prayer that so often escape us during times of stress. Through the Psalms we can experience a peace that passeth all understanding, and God will keep our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7). My prayer is that God will lead us beside Still Waters and Restore our Anxious Souls (Psalm 23).

Day 1 – Psalms 1-6
Day 2
DAY 2: Psalms in 31 Days |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is Day 2 of our Devotional and we will be reading Psalms 7-10. Below you will find a link to today's Video Reading and Reflection. TROUBLE and TRAUMA The affairs of this life often bring trouble and subsequent trauma to our souls. In these next four Psalms (7, 8, 9, 10), the writer David fears that his soul will literally be torn apart by the overwhelming slander and harassment he is enduring. Sorrow and distress fill David’s heart as he asks God how much longer before He acts on his behalf. Waiting on the Lord’s vindication isn’t always easy. Sometimes the waiting hurts so much that we are tempted to take matters into our own hands. Although David is deeply distressed, he relies on God to strengthen his heart and to ultimately vindicate him from the slander of his enemies. “And those who know Your Name will put their trust in You, for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.” (Psalm 9:10) |
DAY 3: Psalms in 31 Days THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is Day 3 of our Devotional and we will be reading Psalms 11-14. Below you will find a link to today's Video Reading and Reflection. SANCTUARY, SHELTER, and SALVATION During times of darkness and distress, there is often a temptation of the soul to distrust God – especially when it seems that God is silent and not acting according to the desires of our hearts. David suffers these same temptations. Deeply grieved by the wickedness that surrounded him – false friends and sworn enemies – David pleads with God for refuge and finds that God is faithful to deliver. |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS
Today is Day 4 of our Devotional and we will be reading Psalms 15-17.
Below you will find a link to today's Video Reading and Reflection.
BLESSED ASSURANCE
The lifestyle of the believer is essential to developing an intimate fellowship with God. As we commit our ways to the Lord, we can possess an assurance that the Lord will uphold us in times of trouble. For “The Lord saves those who trust in him…He will keep us as the apple of His Eye and hide us under the shadow of His Wings (17:7-8).

THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS
Today is Saturday, and this weekend we will complete Days 6 and 7 of our 31 Day read-though of the Book of Psalms. Today we will be reading Psalms 22, 23, and 24. Below you will find a link to today's Video Reading and Reflection.
CONQUERING KING
From the book of Genesis through the Prophet Malachi, God unfolds a Divine Plan to send a mighty Deliverer to the people of Israel. During His time of ministry on earth, Jesus refers his disciples back to the writings of the Prophets and the Psalms so they could trace the hand of God that now stood before them in human flesh (Luke 24:44). These prophecies foretold of Christ’s suffering, betrayal, and rejection. But these Messianic Messages also revealed a Coming Messiah who would ultimately be enthroned in Zion.
In today’s Psalm readings, David asks “Who is this King of Glory?!” His answer evokes praise and thanksgiving for a God who is mighty to save those He loves.
DAY 7: Psalms 25-29 "READING THROUGH THE PSALMS IN |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is day 7 of our 31 Day read-though of the Book of Psalms. We are reading Psalms 25-29. Below you will find a link to today's Video Reading and Reflection. FEARLESS TRUST There are times when David’s tone in the Psalms can be interpreted as argumentative or even haughty. An impassioned David writes with a fearless trust in the intimate relationship that he has with God. From a position of deep humility and obedience, David approaches God with his full heart – with pleas and praises – with questions and concerns. David maintains innocence – that he is walking in truth. He holds nothing back, he asks the Lord “search me and see if there is any wickedness in me”. With a heart of integrity and truth, David prays fervently to the Lord, who is his only refuge. David prays with an unwavering trust in God to vindicate him and to bring him victory. As we live and move and have our being in the Lord, may we also possess a living confidence and fearless trust in the Lord. A trust that in all times and in all places becomes our confession, our declaration, and our reward. |
DAY 8: Psalms in 31 Days |
Today is Day 8 of our 31 Day read-through of the Book of Psalms. We have a guest reader, Kathe King who will be reading Psalms 30 through 33 from the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible. Thank you Kathe! Below you will find a link to today's Video Reading and Reflection. A CELEBRATION OF GOD’S DELIVERANCE It doesn’t matter what David is going through, in every circumstance, he gives God praise! By now you will have noticed a consistent theme in the Psalms. While each of the Psalms were written independently, collectively these writings can be grouped into three main refrains
In Today’s readings – listen for these themes. Take notice of how the Psalmist interweaves these refrains. Observe the Rhythms of Prayer, Praise, and Instruction. I also invite you to engage the text more deeply. After the Video, please add your comments to the YouTube Video. Then, using your bible with colored pencils or highlighters, identify and mark the various themes in each Psalm using a separate color for Prayers, Praises, and Instruction. |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS
Today is day 9 of our 31 Day read-through of the Book of Psalms. We are reading Psalms 34-41 from the (NIV) New International Version of the Bible. Below you will find a link to today's Video Reading and Reflection.
O TASTE AND SEE!
There are some things in the life of a believer that can only be fully understood through personal experience. It’s one thing to hear about God’s goodness, but we cannot fully see without tasting it for ourselves. Our personal trials and triumphs allow us to taste the goodness of the Lord – a taste that becomes ‘sweeter than honeycomb’. David declares, ‘blessed is the one who places their trust in the Lord. As we develop a healthy fear of God and not of circumstances, we also develop a heart to worship God at all times and in all situations.
DAY 10: Psalms in 31 Days |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is day 10 of our 31 Day read-through of the Book of Psalms. We are reading Psalms 42-45 from the (NIV) New International Version of the Bible. Below you will find a link to today's Video Reading and Reflection. SOUL TALK Why so downcast my soul? The psalmist asks this question multiple times in two of the Psalms are reading today. Feeling isolated and abandoned, he reflects deeply on his own faith journey. He searches his heart for any waywardness. He questions why God seems to be absent. Having considered his own faithfulness and much more important, the faithfulness of God, the psalmist engages in some ‘soul talk’. With these words of encouragement drawn from the reality of God’s faithfulness, the psalmist declares to his soul “Put your Hope in God”. During these times of social distancing, we too can benefit from a little “soul talking” of our own. Be encouraged! |
|
DAY 12: Psalms in 31 Days |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is day 12 of our 31 Day read-through of the Book of Psalms. We are reading Psalms 50-54 from the (NKJV) New King James Version of the Bible. Below you will find a link to today's Video Reading and Reflection. CONFESSION and CONSOLATION Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” (Psalm 50:15) There is perhaps nothing more troubling to the soul than unconfessed sin. The shame and the guilt of it exacerbate our fears of being judged and rejected by friends, family, and especially by God. These fears tighten our jaws, and we convince ourselves that silence is better than the sacrifice of confession. But Godly sorrow and confession of sin opens a door for deliverance from the chains that bind. God promises that He will not turn away from a repentant and contrite heart. When we break the silence of sin and call upon the Name of the Lord, He promises to forgive, console, and to deliver. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:10 |
DAY 13: Psalms in 31 Days |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is day 13 of our 31 Day read-through of the Book of Psalms. We are reading Psalms 55-59 from the (NRSV) New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. Below you will find a link to today's Video Reading and Reflection. SAFETY IN PRAYER Our natural responses to uncertainty, danger, or the anticipation that something terrible will happen to us, creates a fierce emotional battle within our souls between fear and trust. With the enemy in hot pursuit and traps at every turn, the Psalmist turns to God - praying fervently for God’s intervention in the midst of the storm. In doing so, he consistently finds a refuge for his soul. Psalm 56:3 when I am afraid, I put my trust in you. The safest place in the midst of danger or any uncertainty that looms over us and threatens our peace, is found in a prayerful encounter with the Living God. He will cover us with his wings until the destroying storms have passed by. As we fervently call upon God’s name in times of distress, He will become our refuge and our fears will give way to a confident trust that God will deliver. |
DAY 14: Psalms in 31 Days |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is day 14 of our 31 Day read-through of the Book of Psalms. Reading today from the NIV Serendipity Bible is Kay Miller. We are reading Psalms 60-64. Below you will find a link to today's Video Reading and Reflection. AUTHENTICITY and TRANSPARENCY Because of these Psalms we know that we can always be authentic and transparent with our God. We hear the Psalmist crying out to God from the depths of despair. “My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, in a dry and weary land where there is no water” We hear the Psalmist singing from the heights of celebration “…my mouth offers praises with joyful lips” We hear the Psalmist sharing honest feelings with God “Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint” During these challenging days of this pandemic, it is good to know that God is with us and for us. Blessings and Love, Kay Miller. |
DAY 15: Psalms in 31 Days |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is day 15 of our 31 Day read-through of the Book of Psalms. We are reading Psalms 65-68 from the Common English Version of the Bible (CEB). Below you will find a link for today's video reading with a link to the online CEB Scriptures. HALLELUJAH ANYHOW! I believe I'll testify, God's been good to me. Through every test and trial, God has given me the victory! Life has tried it’s best to bring me down, to make me turn around, But since my God has proven to be so faithful to me, I'm gonna stand my ground. No matter what comes my way I'll lift my voice and say Hallelujah Anyhow'. These lyrics drawn from Clay Evans song, “Hallelujah Anyhow” and performed by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir capture the essence of today’s Psalm Readings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kPXOdXNumY Friends, life comes at us fast, troubles abound, and Covid-19 is still in the air. But God has been so good to us through it all, and is worthy of our praise! Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our salvation! So, no matter what comes our way, let us lift our voices and say, “Hallelujah Anyhow”! |

|
DAY 19: Psalms in 31 Days |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is day 19 of our 31-day read-through of the Book of Psalms. We are reading Psalms 84-89 from the New American Standard Version (NASB) of the Bible. Below you will find a link for today's video reading that also includes a link to the online NASB Scriptures. How lovely are Your dwelling places, O Lord of hosts! 2 My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the Lord; (Psalm 84:1-2a) In this time of sheltering at home and social distancing, the people of God find themselves longing and yearning for the sanctuary of God. And even though it has become clear that God is not confined to any earthly temple, because he dwells in the hearts of believers, we desire to be in the company of other worshippers. Worship in community has always been a part of our faith journey, and we long for the day that we may return and rejoice together. |
DAY 20: Psalms in 31 Days |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is day 20 of our 31-day read-through of the Book of Psalms. We are reading Psalms 90-94 from the New Living Translation (NLT) of the Bible. Below you will find a link for today's video reading that includes a link to the online NLT Scriptures. Prayers & Praises in the Psalms Included in today’s readings is Psalm 91 – a Psalm that has become our hallmark verse during this Covid-19 pandemic. How appropriate it is for Sharon Graves to be reading for us today. Serving as a missionary near Madrid, the epicenter of Spain’s coronavirus pandemic, these faithful words of God from Psalm 91 have become a living testimony for Sharon: 6 Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. 7 Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. |
DAY 21: Psalms in 31 Days |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is day 21 of our 31-day read-through of the Book of Psalms. We are reading Psalms 95-100 from the New Living Translation (NLT) of the Bible. Below you will find a link for today's video reading that includes a link to the online NLT Scriptures. Sing a New Song to the Lord! Declare his Goodness among the people. The Psalmist puts an obligation on both creature and creation To declare the glory of the Lord among the nations! To tell of his marvelous works! Sing a New Song to the Lord! As we saturate the earth with our praise others will hear about the Greatness of God, others will know of the reign of God, and the day when the Lord comes to judge and to rule the world… |
DAY 22: Psalms in 31 Days |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is day 22 of our 31-day read-through of the Book of Psalms. We are reading Psalms 100-106 from the New Living Translation (NLT) of the Bible. Below you will find a link for today's video reading that includes a link to the online NLT Scriptures. MERCY and JUDGEMENT Even when Israel is experiencing the judgements of God for their disobedience, the psalmist looks to God to answer, to help, and to deliver. God’s Mercy and Judgement are hallmarks of God’s characteristics that are often difficult for people to understand. But working together in divine harmony, God’s Righteous Justice is life-giving, bringing healing and wholeness to all of creation. Confident of God’s compassion, even in judgement, the psalmist continues to offer prayers and praises of thanksgiving to the God of all creation. |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS
Today is day 23 of our 31-day read-through of the Book of Psalms. We are reading Psalms 107-112 from the New Living Translation (NLT) of the Bible. Below you will find a link for today's video reading that includes a link to the online NLT Scriptures.
PSALMS OF RETURN
Those who are wise will take all this to heart;
they will see in our history the faithful love of the Lord. (Psalm 107:43)
Today’s Psalm readings are assumed to have been written during the Israelites journey back to Jerusalem after 70 years of exile from their homeland.
These Psalms are filled with Praise of God
for bringing them out of the wilderness of Babylon,
back to the Holy City of Jerusalem.
Friends, it makes me think
of the Songs of rejoicing that we will sing
when we return to our houses of worship
after months of our own exile and sheltering in place.
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
DAY 24: Psalms in 31 Days |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is day 24 of our 31-day read-through of the Book of Psalms. We are reading Psalms 113-118 from the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible. Below you will find a link for today's video reading that includes a link to the online NIV Scriptures. BREAKING IN – BREAKING OUT Just when it seems like the suffering will never end – when it seems like we can’t take it another day the saving arm of the Lord breaks-in to our lives and sets us free from the chains that bind. After being enslaved for more than 400 years in Egypt, God heard the cries of His people and sent a deliver to the Israelites. This would be a day they will never forget. When God breaks-in to their suffering, the people of God break-out with praise – singing HALLELUJAH - ‘this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes” (Psalm 118:23) |
DAY 25: Psalms in 31 Days |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is day 25 of our 31-day read-through of the Book of Psalms. We are reading Psalms 119 from the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible. DELIGHT IN GOD’S WORD When we think we are “down and out,” the Word of God will revive us and strengthen our faith. When we delight in God’s Word by learning it, meditating on it, and treasuring it in our hearts, obeying what it says, the Lord will work in us and through us to accomplish great things for His Glory! As we read Psalm 119 today, together with Pastor John, notice the variety of experiences that the Psalmist has. Notice how his devotion to the Lord and God’s word remain steadfast. Our life circumstances may change, but God and His Word always remain the same. I will delight in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word. Psalm 119:16 |
|
|
DAY 28: Psalms in 31 Days |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is day 28 of our 31-day read-through of the Book of Psalms. We are reading Psalms 135, 136, and 137 from the New American Standard Bible (NASB). THE WONDERFUL WORKS OF GOD Praise the Lord People of God! Praise the Lord! Give Thanks to God’s Name! Praise the Lord People of God! Recall the Wonderful Works of the Lord! Remember All the Times God Healed you, Delivered you, Redeemed you. Write them down. Make a List. Rehearse them in your prayers. Sing of them in your Praises. May we never forget the Goodness of God! Praise the Lord People of God! May we never cease to Praise the Name of the Lord! May we never forget the Wonderful Works of God! “Give thanks to the God of heaven, For His lovingkindness is everlasting”. Psalm 136:26 |
NO LIMITS
Three of the attributes that characterize God throughout the Bible and within the writings of the Psalms are:
God’s OMNIPRESENCE
Meaning God is Everywhere Present at All Times
God’s OMNISCIENCE
Meaning God is All Knowing
God’s OMNIPOTENCE
Meaning God is All Powerful
Together, these attributes of God express the total Lordship of God in the earth, in the heavens, and in our lives.
As
you read today’s Psalms, look for and mark these characteristics of
God. Then consider how your own life is being shaped by these
undeniable and unalterable truths.
May
they be a reminder to you that God is in total control of His Creation.
His Presence, Power, Knowledge, and Power have no limits!
DAY 30: Psalms in 31 Days |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is Day 30 of our Devotional and we will be reading Psalms 142-145 Below you will find a link to today's Video Reading and Reflection. TAKING INVENTORY Has God been Good to You? Can you testify of His Lovingkindness? Have you captured in your own writings the Faithfulness of God? If not, you should. Truth is for most of us, we’ve been living life at such a rapid pace, that the witness of God’s Lovingkindness often fades away and is forgotten by the end of the day. The reading of the Psalms has reminded me that we have to be intentional about taking inventory of our blessings, writing them down, meditating on them, and then lifting them back up to God in Prayer and Praise as an offering of Thanksgiving. 10 All of your works will thank you, Lord, and your faithful followers will praise you. 11 They will speak of the glory of your kingdom; they will give examples of your power. PSALM 145:10-11 If you don’t keep a written record of God’s faithfulness in your life, I encourage you to begin today, and find ways to share your testimonies with others as a witness to God’s activity in our lives – God is Worthy of All our Praise! |
DAY 31 - Finale: Psalms in 31 Days |
THROUGH THE PSALMS IN 31 DAYS Today is Day 31, marking the end of our month-long devotional reading of the Book of Psalms. We conclude with the reading of Psalms 146-150 from the New Living Translation (NLT) of the Bible. Below you will find a link to today's Video Reading and Reflection. WORTHY OF ALL PRAISE “How good it is to sing praises to our God! How delightful and how fitting!” Even as we continue to be surrounded by the unknown; fighting an enemy that none of us can see, the reading of the entire Book of Psalms over the past 31 days has reminded us that nothing escapes God’s knowledge or God’s view. Let everything that has breath, sing praises to the Lord! Our Worship of God, our Praise to God, even in the midst of the unknown, becomes an expression of our Belief and our profound Trust in God's Providence, and in God’s Lovingkindness towards us. Let all that I am praise the Lord! God knows all things. God sees all things. God reigns over all things And for these and all other blessings, God is Worthy of All our Praise! Let us praise the Lord as long as we live. Let us sing praises to our God until our dying breath. |
