POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Seeking ‘qualified’ candidate for our Children’s Ministry Coordinator (CMC) position. This is a part-time salaried (Starting Salary $10,000/annually) position that serves to connect and nurture unchurched and churched children (Pre-K through 5) with the life and ministries of Rolling Plains United Methodist Church for the expressed purpose of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

This position helps children to come to faith in Jesus Christ, grow as disciples, and develop healthy patterns of Christian living in their homes, schools, community and world. The CMC is a teaching and support position that partners with parents to equip them with the tools and opportunities to help strengthen their families and continue to grow together in faith with Jesus Christ. This support position engages and collaborates with multiple ministries within the church.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate and personally oversee weekly ministries.

• Coordinate and complete Sunday morning children’s ministry programming for the following small groups: Pre-k, K-1, 2-3, and 4-5 at both the 9:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services.

• Oversee Large group activities at both the 9:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Sunday services.

• Edit weekly Orange curriculum to fit into Sunday morning time constraints.

• Prepare sound, media, copies, and distribute scripts.

• Collect, purchase, or make props

• Oversee and collaborate with Nursery coordinator to present Thursday Evening Fusion program that provides additional opportunities for teaching, fellowship, prayer, and spiritual formation.

• Implement developed plans to increase and sustain parent/guardian/child regular communication and participation.

• Actively participate in the ongoing program, outreach, and ministry activities of Rolling Plains United Methodist Church.

• Oversee monthly KidstufFX Family Worship

Currently Scheduled Ministry Times (does not include set up or prep time)

• Sunday Morning Kids Praise (7:45 AM-12:45 AM)

• Sunday Morning KidstufFX (9:45-10:45 AM)

• Thursday Night Fusion groups (6:00 PM-8:00 PM)

Coordinate and oversee Annual Events

• Coordinate selected opportunities for children to serve and participate in missional opportunities in and outside the church (i.e. Bethel Mission).

• Coordinate and oversee a week long VBS (usually in June – requires additional work hours).

• Participate in annual church-wide advent conspiracy project.

• Coordinate and complete annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Other duties may evolve through program growth and development.

EDUCATIONAL & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Formal training or 2-3years experience working as a paid or volunteer ministry coordinator – especially with children 5th grade and under; or similar experience teaching children and coordinating programs/activities.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

The Children’s Ministries Coordinator position shall possess the following core competencies:

• ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS: Proven ability to organize people and events to complete ministry objectives. Ability to demonstrate and articulate use of Prioritization Tools relative to planning,

execution, and evaluation of program goals.

• RELATIONSHIP BUILDING: Verifiable strong interpersonal skills that include: compassion, sensitivity, conflict management, and recognition of non-verbal indicators. Understanding children, childhood development stages as well as parent/guardian/child challenges.

• BOUNDARIES: Establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with parents and children

(will require a thorough knowledge of Safe Sanctuaries policies and procedures after hire).

• TRUST: Develop and maintain trusting relationships as well as being trustworthy. Proven ability to maintain and handle confidential matters.

• Computer (Macintosh) operational skills

Reporting Relationships/Supervision:

The Children’s Ministry Coordinator (CMC) position reports to the Director of Family Ministries, and is amenable to our Staff Parish Relations Committee per the Discipline of the United Methodist Church. Formal Performance reviews will take place yearly, supplemented with quarterly coaching to clarify, assess, and evaluate goals and develop future expectations.

Team Relationships – This is a team position that interacts with Children, Youth, and Family Ministries, Missions, Outreach, and other ministries. The duties of this position shall be carried out in a cooperative and helpful manner relative to other staff of the Church, members, constituents and visitors of Rolling Plains.

Accountability – This part-time position consists of daytime, evening, and weekend work hours. Flexibility in office hours will vary according to planned programs and activities. Communication of scheduled time in the office from the office is expected.

Work Hours –This part-time position consists of daytime, evening, and weekend work hours. Flexibility in office hours will vary according to planned programs and activities. A minimum of 20 work hours per week is expected. Some days/weeks may require additional hours (i.e. VBS). Regular attendance at Rolling Plains Church Sunday morning Worship, monthly All-Staff meetings, and scheduled Annual Retreats are required.

Work/Life Balance – Expected practice of self-care through personal daily devotion and prayer, regular worship attendance, commitment to a Life Group, and scheduling regular days off.
